WORKSHOPS
- 01
Day 1 & Day 2: Preparing Clay and Centering
In the first session, students will learn how to prepare and wedge their own clay. They will be taught the "Bull's/Ram’s head" method to prepare clay for throwing. They will then be introduced to the first step to working on the wheel, Centering.
Day 3 & Day 4: Cylinder
Students learn the next crucial step which is how to open the centered mound of clay, make a base, and pull up walls to make the most basic form, the Cylinder.
Day 5 & Day 6: Shaping Techniques
Once students have learnt how to make cylinders, the next step is to convert them into different shapes. This class will focus on making cups, bowls and vases.
Day 7: Trimming, Finishing, and Attachments
In this class, students will be taught how to finish their pieces in preparation for firing: (1) trimming to remove extra clay, (2) adding a foot ring to the base and (3) attaching handles/knobs.
Day 8: Finishing and Introduction to Glazing
Students are taught how to finish their pots with attention to details. In this session, you also get a demonstration of how to apply glazes, which is the last step of the process.

Day 1 - Centering and pulling cylinders
Day 2 - Pulling cylinders and trimming
Day 3 - Exploring Vases [ cylindrical, narrow neck, rounded]
Day 4 - Vases trimming
Day 5 - Exploring Bowls [ salad bowls, pasta bowls ]
Day 6 - Bowls trimming
Day 7 - Exploring plates [ dinner plates and side plates]
Day 8 - Plates trimming
Ideal for students with previous wheel throwing experience (you are expected to know how to Center & Pull your clay) or for those who have taken our "Wheel Throwing for Beginners" workshop, this Intermediate workshop is for students ready to move on to more complicated forms and have a desire to perfect their sense of craftsmanship.
There will be a focus on a wide range of methods and technical skills used to create more complex and advanced functional forms such as Bowls, Plates and Mugs. You will learn to recognize flaws in construction and will master techniques to not only fix them, but ultimately avoid them in the future. Finally you will learn how to incorporate unique, decorative elements into your work such as handles and other surface and body alterations such as the "drop down lip”.

Day 1: Wedging & Introduction to Pinching (90 min) In the first session, students will learn how to prepare and wedge their own clay. They will be taught the "Bull's/Ram’s head" wedging technique. Then, they are introduced to Pinching technique and are required to explore multiple forms using the same.
Day 2: Introduction to Coiling (90 min) In this session, students are introduced to Coiling technique that also includes merging coils together and exploring multiple forms that are more dynamic.
Day 3: Introduction to Slabs (90 min) Students will be taught how to make their own slabs using rolling pins and the slab roller. Then they can explore various stages of working with a slab, that is leather hard or soft. They will be taught to build various forms, geometric and organic.
Day 4: Pinching Project (90 min) Students are required to come up with ideas for a pinching project, the instructor will guide and help them with the execution.
Day 5: Coiling Project (90 min) Students are required to come up with ideas for a coiling project, the instructor will guide and help them with the execution.
Day 6: Slab Project (90 min) Students are required to come up with ideas for a slab project, the instructor will guide and help them with the execution.
Day 7 & 8: Final Project (90 min) For the final project, the students are required to come up with ideas for a challenging project that combines all three techniques. Thereafter, they work on ideation and execution.
